Giving back to support our communities.

Community Care

The Community Care Program is designed to help RE/MAX Associates give back to the communities where they live, work, and play.

RE/MAX understands that building a great neighbourhood starts with caring and supporting local programs and organizations that make a profound difference in everyday lives. That’s why we put our hearts, our dollars and our efforts behind a wide number of incredible worthwhile charities, right here at home.

Community Involvement

A quality that successful real estate professionals share is community involvement. RE/MAX Associates in particular are mindful of the impact they make locally, not just in real estate but as caring citizens. Over the years, our Associates have distinguished themselves as stewards for the betterment of their communities, concerned not only with contribution to their communities but also with the outcome of the contribution. These qualities – known as RE/MAX Premier Community Citizenship – are a dynamic part of the RE/MAX organization.

Children’s Miracle Network

RE/MAX associates are very active in their communities and volunteer and hold fundraising events for the Children’s Miracle Network and countless other causes all year long. In fact, every August RE/MAX celebrates a Month of Miracles, whereby we especially thank our clients for helping us raise over $44 million in Canada to help over 2.6 million sick and injured children every year treated at a Children’s Miracle Network member hospital. All fund raised by participating RE/MAX associates are sent directly the children’s hospital.

To find out more about our involvement with Children’s Miracle Network, contact a RE/MAX office in your area or Marie Sheppy, Senior Coordinator, Corporate Affairs/Children’s Miracle Network Liaison, RE/MAX of Western Canada at msheppy@remax.net or visit Children’s Miracle Network website at www.childrensmiraclenetwork.ca.

Backpack Buddies

Our “At Home” Corporate Charitable Foundation program

  • Raised and Contributed (first half of 2016): $12,850
  • Raised and Contributed (2015): $33,045

Backpack Buddies is a unique program that addresses a very real need in the Vancouver community while providing a tangible opportunity for kids to help other kids.

We know it isn’t exactly comfortable to think about, but many students in Vancouver’s inner city schools rely heavily on free or reduced price breakfast and lunch programs during the school week. Sadly, something most of us forget is that “hunger doesn’t take the weekend off” and these same kids go home to meager or no meals on the weekend. It is proven that without adequate nutrition, kids have difficulty learning and are at risk of developing serious health conditions. Once they are aware of the issue, we believe no one in Vancouver would want this to be a reality for kids in our city. And this is what led to the formation of our flagship program, Backpack Buddies, a creative solution to the problem.

The concept is simple. Kids that are fortunate enough to be living and attending school without worrying about where their next meal is coming from are invited to join the program. They have fundraisers, hold food drives and pack backpacks full of enough food to feed kids throughout the weekend. Next, Community First volunteers pick up the backpacks and deliver them to the schools that need them. See it’s simple but requires a great deal of work.

Don’t be fooled, we don’t do this all on our own; we have the support of a growing list of community partners that want to be part of the solution. Backpack Buddies is generously
sponsored by Save On Foods and Urban Fare, both making food contributions and Miles End Motors providing the wheels to deliver them.

Backpack Buddies is founded on the belief that in order for kids to feel compassion and empathy, they need to understand and learn about the issues faced by others and then
to be provided with tangible opportunities to actually help and be part of the solution.

It is usually appropriate to assess a need by the demand for what you are doing. Backpack Buddies started with 1 donor school (20 backpacks) and 1 recipient school. Just 2 years later, we have 7 donor schools (400 backpacks) and 5 recipient schools welcoming our help for their hungry kids. As a result, every week we are providing over 400 kids in inner city schools with enough food to last an entire weekend.

2015 REALTORS Care®
Blanket Drive

Thanks to your volunteer efforts, the REALTORS Care® Blanket Drive collected enough blankets and warm clothing this year to help 17,000 Lower Mainland residents!

This press release was sent to our media contacts earlier today:

News Release:

2015 REALTORS Care® Blanket Drive helps 17,000 Lower Mainland residents

VANCOUVER, B.C. – December 22, 2015 – More than 17,000 working poor and homeless people throughout the Lower Mainland will receive blankets and warm clothing this winter thanks to donations collected during the 21st annual REALTORS Care® Blanket Drive.

Between November 16 and 23, over 100 real estate offices served as drop-off points for donations. Realtor volunteers then collected, sorted, and delivered the donations to local charities.

“These donations serve a real need and make a difference in communities across the region,” Darcy McLeod, Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver president said. “We’d like to thank our volunteers and everyone who donated to this year’s program.”

A hallmark of the Blanket Drive is that all donations remain in the community in which they were collected. Many charities rely on donations from the program each year to help them through the winter.

“We depend on donations from the Blanket Drive to help the people who need us the most,” said Major Ed Chu of the Salvation Army in Richmond. “Without them, we would have very little to give.”

The REALTORS Care® Blanket Drive is the largest and longest running blanket drive in British Columbia. Since the Blanket Drive began in 1994, the program has helped more than 290,000 people in our communities keep warm and dry during the winter months.

For more information, go to www.blanketdrive.ca. For a selection of photos from the Blanket Drive, visit www.facebook.com/BlanketDrive.

The REALTORS Care® Blanket Drive is a partnership between the Realtors of the Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver, the Fraser Valley Real Estate Board and the Chilliwack and District Real Estate Board and their communities.

Organ Donor Awarenessamy-still-waiting

RE/MAX is committed to help raise awareness of the ongoing need for organ donation. Canadian Association of Transplantation assists Canadians in making informed decisions regarding organ, tissue and bone marrow donation. The Canadian Association of Transplantation site provides some national information regarding organ and tissue donation, but more importantly acts as a portal to the many provincial organizations that are mandated to oversee organ and tissue donation programs across the country.

For more information on how to register to be an organ donor and for contact information on the provincial organizations that are mandated to oversee organ and tissue donation programs across the country go to: www.transplant.ca
